List of Correlative Conjunctions for IELTS

 

 

Correlative conjunctions are pairs such as neither . . . nornot . . . only, and but . . . also.

 

These conjunctions connect two balanced clauses, phrases, or words.

 

The two elements that correlative conjunctions connect are usually similar in length and grammatical structure.

 

 

either . . . or

We can go to either Malaysia or Singapore for our holiday.

It’s my final offer – you can either take it or leave it.

 

I will eat either peas or carrots for dinner.

 

both . . . and

Both soccer and football are popular in France.

Both English and Malay are spoken in Malaysia.

 

The company deals in both software and hardware.

 

not only . . . but also

Not only is he a professional basketball player, but he’s also a successful businessman.

 

He not only studies hard but also works well.

 

not . . . but

There are not two but three Baltic states: Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
